ECO-DESIGN, WHAT IS IT?
WHAT IS ECO-DESIGN?
On average, each page viewed on a website generates approximately 4.61 grams of CO2 emissions. With a strong commitment to environmental preservation, Rail Logistics Europe has opted to construct an eco-designed website, featuring an eco index to enhance transparency.
An "eco-designed website," also known as an "eco-friendly website," is one where the development and hosting processes are carefully managed to minimize environmental impact. This corresponds to a proactive strategy for environmental responsibility, with the goal of diminishing the ecological impact of a product or service at every stage, from its creation to its utilization and ultimate disposal
When implementing eco-design principles on a website, it involves:
- Greener development (data optimization*)
- Greener hosting (solar or wind power)
Compression of images, exclusion of videos directly hosted on the site, simplification of code and caching of resources, thus reducing the energy consumption required for display.
ECO-FRIENDLY DESIGN AT RAIL LOGISTICS EUROPE
By adopting an eco-designed website, Rail Logistics Europe confirms its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint across all its activities. This best practice is also an opportunity to raise public awareness of environmental issues.
HOW WAS THE SITE DESIGNED?
In concrete terms, the site has been streamlined in terms of data thanks to concise texts, imported images with optimized weight, and the absence of superfluous functionalities. The eco-design performance of our website also includes the choice of a green web host, OVH, which thanks to its proprietary watercooling technology operates its datacenters without air conditioning and with 91% renewable energy.
